Located about 8 miles offshore from Key Colony beach, the Sombrero lighthouse was constructed pre Civil War. It is still fully functional. There are 11 mooring buoys located on the ocean side. Sombrero has one of the largest reefs in the middle keys and one of the most magnificent. You will see schools of colorful tropical fish and large barracuda hanging out by the lighthouse. There is an arch in the coral limestone that is large enough to swim through. Sombrero light is a marine sanctuary so fishing/lobster is strictly prohibited.
