The shallow patch reefs of Coffins Patch are within easy boating distance from Duck Key. They offer some of the best snorkeling in the Middle Keys as well as great shallow dives. There are four mooring buoys to tie off your rental boat. Each offers access to different depths and coral, but the area is generally shallow and compact enough to explore it all.

Because the area is protected from fishing & lobstering, you will be able to view abundant sea life and vibrant corals. Jacks, stingrays, nurse sharks, grouper, lobster, moray eels, and many more fish can be found here. Coral includes pillar, star and convoluted brain coral which totally cover the area. All five angelfish species found in the Florida Keys can be seen: queen, blue, French, gray and rock beauty. See soft corals, round boulder coral as big as 3 feet tall, and some beautiful pillar coral patches. To view pillar coral, visit the West end of Coffins Patch in 15 – 25 feet.
